The European Union on Tuesday banned the purchase, import and transfer of gold from Sudan. EU officials have described the gold trade as a key source of finance fueling the bloody civil war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia that began in the country in April 2023. The conflict has displaced more than 14 million people and the African country is facing one of the worst humanitarian crises in modern times.
The purchase, import and transfer of gold from Sudan are now prohibited in the EU. The reason: the revenues from the precious metals trade fuel the brutal civil war. The Uno fears new atrocities.

Brussels -- The Council of the European Union on Monday adopted a decision banning the purchase, import, or transport of gold originating from Sudan.
