With 3.6 kilometers of total length, and a central stretch of 3,300 meters long suspended in the air hanging from two support towers, the Strait of Messina bridge will connect in 2032 the island of Sicily with continental Italy. There are other suspension bridges kilometre, but Messina will have the greatest free distance (without intermediate support) between two structural supports.
