Agreement reached to avert Broadway actors' strike, union says

The three-year deal preserves the Equity-League Health Fund and improves scheduling and physical therapy access for more than 51,000 actors and stage managers.

  • After marathon mediation that ran to 6 a.m. Saturday, negotiators reached a tentative Production Contract agreement between Actors’ Equity Association and The Broadway League.
  • To protect benefits, the three-year deal seeks to preserve the Equity-League Health Fund and address scheduling and physical therapy access after the union’s contract expired Sept. 28.
  • The union will bring the tentative deal to members for ratification and Equity says it will present the agreement to its membership of more than 51,000 professional actors and stage managers.
  • With strike authorization already in place, the union pledged full support for AFM Local 802 as musicians continue talks after recently voting for a strike.
  • The Broadway League, as the national trade association, plays a central role because it represents Broadway owners and producers, while Local 802 AFM remains in negotiation and warns everything remains on the table.
