Teens get probation after using AI to create fake nudes of classmates

Two 14-year-olds admitted to creating 59 AI-generated explicit images of classmates and received probation, community service, and restitution orders, court records show.

  • On Wednesday, Lancaster County Common Pleas Court Judge Leonard Brown III placed two teenage boys on probation and in parental custody after they used Artificial Intelligence to create fake nude photos of their classmates.
  • The boys, who were 14 at the time, admitted earlier this month to morphing photos of Lancaster Country Day School classmates—many taken from Instagram—with virtual images depicting nudity or sexual activity.
  • Brown ordered the pair to complete 60 hours of community service each, with the case eligible for expungement after two years if they avoid further legal problems; he noted neither boy offered an apology.
  • Nadeem Bezar, a Philadelphia lawyer representing at least 10 victims, said Tuesday he expects to file a claim against the school and any entities with culpability for the deepfakes being created and disseminated.
  • Forty-Six states now have laws addressing deepfakes, and President Donald Trump signed the Take it Down Act last year, requiring websites to remove nonconsensual intimate images within 48 hours of victim notification.
