Teenager filmed inches from being hit by train as they 'risk everything' for 'game'
- Earlier this month, CCTV at a level crossing north of Diss station in Norfolk captured a teenager stepping onto the tracks and only moving out of the way at the last second.
- Network Rail released CCTV during the half-term holidays to show dangerously risky behaviour on level crossings to young people, Network Rail Anglia’s health and safety manager Shenel Bullock said.
- Because trains on that stretch can travel at up to 100mph, officials warned stepping onto tracks could cause life-changing injuries or death and one tiny misjudgement could be tragic.
- Network Rail urged people to be vigilant and follow crossing rules, saying railway users must respect locked gates, barriers, lights and alarms, while Matthew Wakefield emphasized safety as the priority and stressed adherence to rules.
- Officials pointed to taking selfies, filming dances and playing games as risky behaviours near crossings, and warned that screens and headphones also create fatal distractions for people approaching a level crossing.
