Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu's Husband Is Dead
Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi said Hassan died at 8 a.m. while receiving treatment for heart problems, as funeral plans began in Zanzibar.
On Monday, September 7, 2026, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, died while receiving medical care in Zanzibar.
Hafidh had been receiving treatment for a heart condition before passing away at 8:00 a.m. at Mlimani Mzena Memorial Hospital.
Tanzania Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi announced the passing and expressed condolences to the President, the family, and all Tanzanians during this time of mourning.
Burial arrangements are already underway in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar, to honor the Honorable Hafidh Ameir Hassan, the Vice President confirmed.
As the United Republic enters this period of mourning, citizens reflect on the loss of the President's husband and first gentleman since 2021.
