talkSPORT's Alan Brazil's heart stopped during life-saving liver transplant surgery
Brazil says he is improving steadily after an eight-hour transplant that briefly stopped his heart, and he hopes to return to talkSPORT in a few weeks.
On Thursday, TalkSport host Alan Brazil returned to air, confirming he is recovering after undergoing a life-saving liver transplant at Addenbrooke Hospital six weeks ago.
The 66-year-old underwent emergency surgery shortly after finishing his Breakfast show, following ongoing health issues that prompted his family, including Jill, to insist he accept the transplant.
Brazil's heart briefly stopped during the eight-hour surgery, though he later stated, "I'll be frank, I'm very, very lucky to be here" upon reflecting on his survival.
Managing fluid retention and sleep issues, Brazil is attending appointments at Ipswich Hospital and in Cambridge while "taking loads of meds" as part of his ongoing recovery protocol.
Gradually improving, the former Scotland and Ipswich striker targets a return to broadcasting in the coming weeks, declaring he remains "alive and kicking" despite the severity of his ordeal.
