"Take Control of the Elderly's Cell Phones Remotely": Indictment in the "Russian Sting" Affair

Yan Yakubov operated a systematic and sophisticated fraud network that blatantly exploited the frailty of the elderly and their lack of command of the Hebrew language. As part of that network, Yakubov and his partners called victims and pretended to be service providers, thus convincing the elderly to install remote control applications on their mobile devices.

The State Attorney's Office filed an indictment with the court against Yan Yakubov from Netanya, for a series of serious offenses he committed against approximately 50 Russian-speaking elderly people. • The defendant operated for about a year as part of a systematic fraud network and stole funds totaling approximately 390,000 NIS.
