Taiwan raises 2025 GDP growth forecast on surge in AI demand
Taiwan's 2025 GDP growth forecast jumps 2.92 points to 7.37% due to surging AI-related exports, investment, and a NT$10,000 cash handout boosting consumption.
- On Nov. 28, the DGBAS sharply revised Taiwan's 2025 GDP forecast to 7.37, a 2.92 percentage-point increase from its August estimate of 4.45.
- DGBAS officials said soaring AI demand and the NT$10,000 cash handout to Taiwan residents, which began earlier this month, are expected to boost exports, investment, and consumption.
- Q4 data show merchandise shipments rising to NT$5.41 trillion , while full‑year exports and imports are expected to increase 31.14% and 28.47%, respectively.
- The DGBAS is looking at fourth‑quarter growth of 7.91, with cash payouts contributing about one percentage point to that quarter, and private consumption is now projected to grow 1.5%.
- The agency warned risks persist into next year even as strong AI demand and sovereign AI initiatives should continue to support Taiwan's supply chain, with exports expected to reach US$664.4 billion next year and growth moderating to 3.54% in 2026.
