- On Monday, 80-year-old actor Sylvester Stallone expressed mixed feelings about the biopic I Play Rocky while promoting his memoir The Steps in New York City, questioning the project's timing.
- I Play Rocky premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12 to much fanfare and is being tipped as an Oscar contender for 2027, following the making of 1976's Rocky.
- After seeing a clip of Ippolito in character, Stallone was stunned by the incredible likeness, saying 'I actually thought it was me the first moment; there were a couple of angles.' Ippolito had spent over a year studying the actor before filming.
- Despite his reservations, Stallone stressed he had 'nothing to do' with the film but offered support to Ippolito, saying 'I talked to the kid. I said, If you want any questions, here I am,' and joked about the portrayal.
- Beyond the biopic, Stallone revealed he is trying to get Amazon to let him recut 1990's Rocky V, calling the movie 'a thorn in my side,' as his memoir The Steps hits bookshelves tomorrow.
