His SUV Trapped Between Trucks, BJP Leader Burnt Alive in Chhattisgarh over Illegal Sand Mining Dispute
Police said a long-running sand-mining dispute turned deadly after attackers rammed an SUV with a truck and set off a fire that killed three people.
On Tuesday, a sand-mining dispute in Chhattisgarh's Korea district turned fatal when attackers rammed an SUV with a truck and set it ablaze. Three people, including Bharatiya Janata Party leader Bharat Singh, died in the attack.
Police suspect the killings stemmed from a long-standing sand-mining rivalry with the Tripathi family. A verbal altercation between the groups on Monday escalated into the violent confrontation Tuesday in Katgodi village.
Attackers rammed the victims' vehicle with a truck before setting it on fire, trapping occupants inside. While Bharat Singh died in the car, his brother Nagendra Singh succumbed to 80 per cent burn injuries, and Virendra Pratap Singh was assaulted.
Following the incident, authorities arrested four men—Vishal, Satyakumar, Akshay, and Mahendar—in connection with the case. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai assured that "no one will be spared."
The Opposition Congress alleged illegal sand mining operates under political patronage, while BJP sources denied the suspects hold party posts. The Kshatriya community has demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation .
