- Strengthening El Niño conditions over the Pacific Ocean are causing enhanced vertical wind shear, which NOAA hurricane forecaster Matt Rosencrans said is the "dominant factor" suppressing storm development.
- Experts from Colorado State University released a similar outlook Wednesday, forecasting 9 named storms and a "well-below average probability" for major hurricane landfalls on the U.S. coast.
- The most dangerous portion of the hurricane season remains ahead, as more than 85% of tropical cyclone activity occurs from August through October before the season ends November 30.
- Despite the favorable outlook, National Weather Service Director Ken Graham emphasized that "it only takes one" storm to create a devastating season, as inland rainfall causes major damage.
