Subaru Recalls Nearly 70,000 Vehicles Due to Fire Risk
Subaru recalled 69,153 hybrid vehicles due to a fuel filler cap defect that may cause leaks and increase fire risk, with 33 related reports received in the U.S.
- On Thursday, Subaru issued a voluntary recall for nearly 70,000 vehicles, including 69,153 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid and 2025 Forester Hybrid models.
- NHTSA reported that a nearly full fuel tank exposed to heat can cause leaks past the filler cap, and Subaru knew of 33 technical reports with no fires or injuries as of Feb. 23.
- Dealerships will replace the fuel filler cap gasket free of charge, and Subaru advised vehicle owners to park outside and keep fuel below 50% until owner notification within 60 days.
- Out of caution, Subaru of America initiated a voluntary safety recall affecting 100% of the models mentioned, covering nearly 70,000 vehicles, Thursday.
- The 2025 Forester Hybrid recall affects 51,707 vehicles manufactured between Nov. 28, 2024, and Dec 05, 2025, while the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid recall includes 17,446 vehicles made after Jun 26, 2025.
