Class Action Lawsuit Against StubHub for World Cup Tickets Filed in B.C. Court
The lawsuit says StubHub sold speculative World Cup resale tickets and failed to honor its FanProtect Guarantee, leaving buyers without seats.
- On July 15, Vancouver resident Mark Gallagher filed a proposed class action lawsuit against StubHub in B.C. Supreme Court after FIFA World Cup tickets he purchased failed to materialize.
- Gallagher purchased tickets in March for a June 18 Canada vs. Qatar match but never received them despite multiple assurances from StubHub staff that his file had been "escalated" and would be available.
- The lawsuit alleges StubHub knowingly sold speculative tickets it did not possess and failed to honor its "FanProtect Guarantee," which promises consumers valid tickets for events.
- Gallagher seeks damages for violations of the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act, claiming StubHub "regularly declines to honour the Guarantee" and provides inferior tickets when originals are unavailable.
- StubHub has yet to file a response to the litigation. Defendants must file responses within 21 days if they reside in Canada or 49 days if they reside elsewhere.
