Storm Kristin caused six deaths and left nearly 1 million homes without power in Portugal, with winds reaching 202 km/h and over 3,000 incidents reported, officials said.
- On Wednesday January 28, Storm Kristin swept across Spain overnight, bringing snow, flooding, and power cuts that disrupted Madrid, Alcobendas, Las Rozas, and caused a fatality in Málaga.
- Aemet says every region is under alert today, making Kristin the sixth major storm to hit Spain this month amid storms Francis, Goretti, Ingrid and Joseph.
- Across affected regions, emergency services responded to more than 800 incidents before midnight, while rising rivers forced evacuations of around 250 residents in San Roque, Cádiz, and red wind warnings hit Galicia and Cáceres with gusts up to 130 km/h.
- National rail operators Renfe and Adif warned passengers of Cercanías delays and suspensions on Wednesday, while schools in Extremadura and 77 municipalities across Almería, Málaga, and Cádiz closed and motorists were stuck for hours.
- Storm Kristin is expected to leave Spain on Thursday, but authorities urged caution as meteorologists said conditions remain unstable and it is not another Filomena.
