Storm Amy: Repair crews doing ‘very best’ to restore power after battering
Storm Amy caused around 250,000 power outages across Ireland, with ongoing restoration efforts aiming to reconnect the remaining 13,000 homes and businesses by early next week.
- On Friday, Storm Amy made landfall, causing damage to power lines, schools and vehicles in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
- Damage to the electricity network occurred as strong winds brought down trees, broke overhead lines, and damaged poles, causing approximately 1,000 faults and about 65,000 properties to lose power at the height of the storm.
- In the Republic of Ireland, about 184,000 properties lost power on Friday, but by late Saturday evening that number had fallen to 13,000.
- NIE Networks said 3,000 properties remained without power this morning as crews continued the clean-up, and Alex Houston said his team was doing its "very best to get as many as possible reconnected today".
- The ESB warned it could take until early next week for all customers to be reconnected, with some affected areas possibly waiting until Monday evening.
