Stolen Watch Worth US$290,000 Returned to Japan Store with Sorry Note
Police say the returned watch matched the stolen item by serial number, and investigators believe the sender details on the parcel were false.
On Sunday, a stolen Swiss Audemars Piguet watch worth $290,000 was returned to a shop in Tokyo's Nakano Ward via courier, accompanied by a handwritten apology note.
Tokyo police report the watch was stolen last week when a man posing as a customer tried on the timepiece at a Nakano Broadway complex store and fled.
According to investigative sources, store staff confirmed the returned item was the stolen watch after checking its unique serial number.
Tokyo police are searching for the suspect, with the name and address on the delivery package from Aichi Prefecture appearing to be false.
This incident follows a separate theft at the same Nakano Broadway complex, where two Chilean men stole four luxury watches worth 200 million yen.
