Steven Spielberg's 'Disclosure Day' Opens No. 1, While 'Obsession' Sensation Continues

On Sunday, Steven Spielberg's "Disclosure Day" launched with $44 million in domestic theaters, earning $92.9 million worldwide and marking the 79-year-old director's best opening for an original movie.
A slightly older audience drove interest, with 41% of moviegoers aged 45 and up, while distribution chief Jim Orr noted the film played evenly across the U.S. and Canada despite NBA finals competition.
Meanwhile, the indie horror hit "Obsession," directed by Curry Barker, collected $19 million this weekend, bringing the Focus Features release to a worldwide total of $286.5 million.
Other films saw mixed results, as the horror spoof "Scary Movie" slid to third place with $14.5 million, while A24's "Backrooms" added $11.3 million domestically in its third weekend.
Rentrak's Paul Dergarabedian, head of marketplace trends, stated "It's off to a solid start," while the film's trajectory remains promising in the coming weeks despite mixed audience responses.
