- On Tuesday, state Rep. Steve Toth defeated U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw in the Republican primary for Texas's 2nd Congressional District, deciding who will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot.
- Last week, Ted Cruz, U.S. senator, endorsed Toth and the House Freedom Caucus political arm backed him, with redistricting placing much of Toth's state House seat inside the district.
- With 72% counted, the AP called the race for Toth with vote totals showing him leading 57.6% to 39%, despite Crenshaw's $616,000 b spending and nearly $2 million in pro-incumbent ads.
- With the district's GOP advantage, Toth will face Shaun Finnie in November, as the seat remains strongly Republican and Toth is heavily favored.
