SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, AUG 8 – Suspect Carmine Faino killed a neighbor and ambushed troopers, who were severely wounded but survived, before police ended the standoff after hours, officials said.
- On Thursday in Susquehanna County, Carmine Faino shot and killed his neighbor Lori Wasko outside her home, then ambushed troopers, wounding two, before he was killed by the Special Emergency Response Team.
- Shortly after 11 a.m., Troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins arrived on Route 171 after Lori Wasko’s boyfriend called 911 to report gunfire.
- Amid heavy gunfire, Trooper Perechinsky applied a tourniquet to Trooper Jenkins, and Paris added, `Despite being very severely wounded, Trooper Perechinsky was able to tourniquet both arms of Trooper Jenkins.`
- The two wounded troopers are recovering in stable condition, with Jenkins in good condition and Perechinsky in fair condition late Friday morning, officials said.
- With no local police department, Erika Mills said the shooting made for a terrifying day in a normally peaceful community.
