Orbital Data Center Startup Starcloud Valued at US$2.3 Billion in Latest Funding
Manhattan West Ventures led the round as Nvidia and Cisco joined, and Starcloud said the money will fund a larger factory and Starcloud-3.
- Starcloud raised a $250 million Series A extension, valuing the orbital AI startup at $2.3 billion. CEO Philip Johnston said funds will support manufacturing, engineering work with Nvidia, and "procurement of future launch allocation."
- Manhattan West Ventures led the funding round, with Nvidia and Cisco Investments joining as new backers. Nvidia reportedly contributed $25 million to develop the Nvidia Space-1 Vera Rubin Module for orbital use.
- Expanding production, the company is developing a 100,000 square foot facility in Woodinville, Washington. This follows successful orbital AI inference tests using the Starcloud One satellite, which carried an Nvidia H100 GPU.
- Securing launch capacity remains a primary challenge, as SpaceX's Falcon 9 program is scheduled to end in 2028. Consequently, Starcloud is aiming to book future launches on the larger, unproven Starship rocket.
- To support its long-term goals, Starcloud has filed for FCC permission to operate 88,000 spacecraft. Two compute satellites are currently scheduled for 2027 rideshare flights.
