SSGC announces winter gas supply timings for consumers
SSGC said the winter schedule will prioritize household cooking needs as dwindling LNG supplies and rising demand strain the gas system.
On Wednesday, the Sui Southern Gas Company announced a new winter gas supply schedule for domestic consumers in Sindh and Balochistan, restricting availability to three daily cooking-time slots under federal government directives.
Rising winter demand and dwindling liquefied natural gas availability prompted the government to mandate these restrictions, as consumers in these regions have faced inconsistent supply for years.
Households will receive gas from 6:30am to 9am for breakfast, 12pm to 2:30pm for lunch, and 6pm to 9pm for dinner, with the utility "prioritising domestic consumers by ensuring supply during meal times."
Separately, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited has implemented similar load management across Islamabad, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as the government prioritizes domestic consumption over other sectors during the seasonal crisis.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik recently unveiled sweeping reforms to open the liquefied petroleum gas sector to competition, aiming to curb profiteering and improve supply stability through transparent pricing and private-sector imports.
