- On Oct. 31, Spirit Airlines will end service at Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport and Hartford's Bradley International Airport, then suspend around 40 routes starting in November, cutting 25% of its schedule.
- After a second bankruptcy filing last month, Spirit said higher-than-expected costs and weaker travel demand prompted urgent route and job cuts to improve its financial outlook.
- Earlier this week, Spirit announced it will furlough about 1,800 flight attendants, cut 270 pilots, and demote 140 captains while suspending dozens of marginal routes.
- Passengers will face refunds and route changes, and Spirit said 'We apologize to our Guests for any inconvenience and will reach out to those with affected reservations to issue a refund,' while flights were already set to drop over 20% versus last year, Cirium found.
- Spirit hired Andrea Lusso, formerly principal at Amazon Air, as vice president of network planning to design a smaller, denser airline that stops cash losses and attracts fresh capital.
