Speedskater Jackson, Bobsledder Del Duca Named US Opening Ceremony Flag Bearers
Erin Jackson, first Black woman Winter Olympic speedskating gold medalist, and Frank Del Duca, a U.S. Army sergeant with Italian roots, were athlete-chosen flag bearers for Team USA.
- On Tuesday, the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee announced that Erin Jackson and Frank Del Duca will carry the American flag at the Opening Ceremony on Friday, Feb. 6.
- Chosen by fellow athletes, Jackson and Del Duca were selected by a vote led by the Team USA Athletes' Commission, following the IOC's 2020 gender-parity rule for two flagbearers.
- From Milan on TODAY, Jackson, an Olympic champion from Ocala, Florida, will defend her 500m title and compete in the 1,000m at her third Olympics.
- Del Duca, an Army sergeant from Bethel, Maine, is the first U.S. bobsledder in 70 years to carry the flag and belongs to the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program.
- The Opening Ceremony spans Milan, Cortina, Livigno and Predazzo with about 60,000 attending and airs live on NBC and Peacock at 2 p.m. ET with an 8 p.m. encore.
