Special election for Scott’s House seat in Georgia heads to runoff
Marcye Scott led with 47% and Everton Blair with 37% as voters chose among six candidates for the remaining months of David Scott’s term.
- On Tuesday, Marcye Scott, daughter of late Rep. David Scott, and Gwinnett County School Board Chair Everton Blair advanced to a runoff in the Georgia 13th Congressional District special election, NBC News projects.
- The special election follows the April 22 death of Scott, who represented the solid-blue, Atlanta-area district for over two decades before his passing at age 80.
- Nearly 8,700 ballots had been cast by Friday, and with about 80% of the expected vote tallied, Scott led with 47% support while Blair received 37%.
- Because no candidate secured more than 50% of the vote, the top two finishers will advance to an Aug. 25 runoff to finish the current term.
- Voters will return in November to choose between State Rep. Jasmine Clark and Republican Jonathan Chavez for the full two-year term beginning in 2026.
