Heatwave to Scorch Spain From Sunday with Highs of 45ºC
ANDALUCÍA, SPAIN, JUL 31 – Aemet issued yellow and amber alerts for six provinces as temperatures surpass 40°C, with peaks over 42°C expected on Monday, marking the second heatwave this summer in Andalucía.
- Spain’s Aemet warns that only Malaga and Almeria will avoid the first day of record temperatures on Sunday, 3 August, from 1pm to 9pm in the Andalucía region.
- Amid anticyclonic circulation over Africa, Aemet explains that clear skies, easterly winds, and a high-level depression will lead to higher temperatures than usual for this time of year.
- On Monday, temperatures exceeding 42C around the Guadiana and Guadalquivir rivers are forecast, with 39C and 40C possible in the Antequera area on Tuesday, and sea temperatures between 27C and 28C during the episode.
