Southern Baptists vote to advance a formal ban on churches with women pastors
Thousands of Southern Baptists voted overwhelmingly to advance a formal ban on women pastors in their denomination with a vote of 6,028 in favor and 2,026 against, exceeding the required two-thirds majority.
The amendment would strengthen existing rules in the Southern Baptist Convention that already oppose women pastors.
Albert Mohler described the amendment as addressing a defining issue related to the role of pastors in their churches.
The vote saw brief debate and no support for women pastors within the denomination.
