In South Sudan, this Monday, August 18, marks the 70th anniversary of a founding event of the South Sudanese revolt against Khartoum, which, after a long struggle, will lead to the country's independence in 2011. In 1955, as Sudan emerges from the British giron, soldiers from the south of the country rebelled against their northern officers, in the city of Torit, in the far south of the country, a particularly bloody episode.
