South Korea’s military says North Korea fired a projectile toward the sea
Japan warned ships after South Korea detected multiple launches, while officials said one missile flew more than 900 kilometers.
North Korea fired an unidentified projectile toward the East Sea on Monday, South Korea's military reported, adding to a recent streak of weapons demonstrations.
The latest launch follows an earlier test from the Wonsan area where North Korea fired a ballistic missile, an event overseen by leader Kim Jong-un.
According to the Korean Central News Agency, Kim Jong-un oversaw the intermediate-range strategic missile launch as part of efforts to train troops operating the "hypersonic strategic weapon system."
The Joint Chiefs of Staff detected the launch but did not immediately identify whether the weapon was a ballistic missile or disclose flight distance.
South Korea's military forces were previously positioned in Paju near the border with North, underscoring regional military readiness amid the ongoing weapons demonstrations.
According to data from Seoul, Pyongyang is testing rockets again. The missiles are said to have flown about 900 kilometres towards the Japanese Sea. The latest test is due to similar shootings.
