Source: Veteran quarterback Kelly agrees to extension with Toronto Argonauts
The extension keeps Chad Kelly from free agency after his best CFL season, with 5,067 passing yards and 33 touchdowns.
On Oct. 26, the Toronto Argonauts and quarterback Chad Kelly agreed to a multi-year contract extension, securing his future with the team through 2031. Kelly was slated to become a free agent this off-season.
Negotiations between Kelly and the Argos were reportedly put on hold last month until the season's end. The quarterback is in the final year of his three-year, $1.865-million extension signed in 2023.
Kelly is enjoying his best CFL season in 2026, establishing career highs with 5,067 passing yards and 33 touchdowns. He has also thrown a career-high 24 interceptions during the campaign.
The CFL has scheduled a news conference for Tuesday to make a "major announcement" regarding the deal. This ensures stability for the Argos as they prepare for the upcoming playoffs.
After missing the 2025 season due to a leg injury from the 2024 East Division final, Kelly rejoined the team this year. He expects to start Saturday when the Argos host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
