‘Happy over the Fact It’s over’: Number of Emotions as Redblacks Close Trying Season
The Redblacks endured injuries, three starting quarterbacks and a front-office shakeup as new president Mike Morreale begins evaluating the rebuild.
On Sunday, October 25, 2026, the Ottawa Redblacks concluded a franchise-worst 1-17 season as newly hired president Mike Morreale begins overseeing an organizational reset.
The campaign fell far from expectations, marked by mid-season dismissals of defensive co-ordinator Will Fields on August 1, vice-president of football operations Shawn Burke on August 17, and president Adrian Scarra by August 23.
Head coach and general manager Ryan Dinwiddie remains under evaluation, though he expressed commitment to the rebuild, stating, "I want to turn this thing around, right?" Dinwiddie was signed to a three-year contract last season.
Pending free agents include receiver Justin Hardy, coming off his fourth consecutive 1,000-plus yard season, and linebacker Nyles Morgan, who stated he would be interested in returning to Ottawa.
Players remain optimistic despite the season. Linebacker Lucas Cormier noted that in a nine-team CFL league, teams can "turn around in a year or two," and Dinwiddie's experience winning two Grey Cups should not be overlooked.
