Sourav Ganguly makes police complaint over defamatory posts on social media
Ganguly said the page has over 3.6 million followers and asked police to act against posts he says are false and damaging.
On Monday, June 15, 2026, former India cricket captain and Cricket Association of Bengal president Sourav Ganguly filed a police complaint at Thakurpukur Police Station, alleging a Facebook page circulated defamatory content to damage his reputation.
Ganguly alleged the page, titled "Sourav Ganguly Fans," has over 3.6 million followers and spreads misleading material intended to malign him, seeking legal intervention against the operators.
The complaint also names the sports media platform Sportzwiki, with Ganguly stating, "Being a public figure, I understand that opinions and criticism are a part of public life; however, spreading misleading, defamatory, and damaging content... is unacceptable."
Following the submission, Kolkata Police registered a First Information Report regarding the defamation allegations, with a senior officer confirming the matter is under examination.
Between 2000 and 2005, Ganguly captained India's national team, later serving as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, cementing his status as a significant cricket leader.
