Special enrollment dates intended only for children of foreigners with temporary protection are, according to some senators, discriminatory and may lead to segregation. The senators therefore turned to the Constitutional Court with a request to cancel the possibility for schools to use the special date. The measure mainly concerns Ukrainian children who came to the Czech Republic due to the Russian invasion.
The amendment, which reintroduced the possibility of dual enrollment of children of refugees from Ukraine in elementary schools, is discriminatory and violates the constitution, says Senator Jiří Růžička (non-party and member of the ODS and TOP 09 senatorial club), who is also one of the submitters of a motion to the Constitutional Court (ÚS) to abolish it.
