Citing national security concerns, the country’s interior ministry said it shut down access to the platform ahead of elections in February. Though Pakistani users have complained of limited access to X for months, the government has not confirmed it restricted the website until now. X remains blocked, but another court has told the government it has a week to reevaluate the shutdown.
The platform is favourably used in the country to distribute uncensored news and mobilize the opposition.
