The Trail of the "Mocro Mafia" that Blows up ATMs Across Europe

In Tyrol a bank card was blown up again, it is already the 19th case this year. The police suspect behind it "professional" gangs from the Netherlands

The "Mocro-Mafia" also keeps Austria in mind, this year there have already been 18 explosions of ATMs. Last but not least in Gmunden (OÖ), where the coup had really gone wrong and the perpetrators now have higher penalties. Meanwhile, the banks are changing their strategies to deter crooks – and even empty the cash registers.

Until May, more ATMs were robbed in Austria than in 2024. The traces lead to Dutch people with Moroccan roots. Around them, a criminal milieu has formed, which has shaken the self-image of a pre-seignation for years.

Five Dutch nationals have been arrested in a German operation against ATM bombings. They are held responsible for at least nine explosions at ATMs in western Germany between December 2021 and October 2024. They are said to have stolen almost 600,000 euros and caused almost 1.7 million euros in damage.

ATM blasters struck in a branch between Cologne and Düsseldorf. The police were quickly on site - but the perpetrators had quickly disappeared with their motorcycle.

After a bankomat blast in Reith in the Alpbachtal in the night on Wednesday, the police investigate at full speed. According to initial findings, the perpetrators fled with prey on an e-scooter.
