SIT summons Siddipet MLA T. Harish Rao in phone tapping probe
The Special Investigation Team alleges BRS leader T. Harish Rao knew about illegal phone tapping involving 6,000 phones during the previous regime, including judges and journalists.
- T. Harish Rao, BRS MLA and former Irrigation Minister, has been asked to appear before the Special Investigation Team of Telangana Police on January 20, 2026, at 11 am at Jubilee Hills police station.
- The issue surfaced after the March 13, 2024 arrest of former SIB Deputy Superintendent Praneeth Rao, and a second Special Investigation Team was formed on December 18, 2025 to expedite the nearly 21-month inquiry.
- Investigators allege SIB resources were used to surveil citizens, with a suspended DSP among four police officials arrested by Hyderabad Police for erasing intelligence information and tapping around 6,000 phones.
- Harish Rao alleges the notice is politically motivated to divert attention from its corruption by the Congress government ahead of municipal elections and says he will seek legal recourse.
- The SIT, led by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, was set up as a 10-member team and Jubilee Hills ACP P. Venkatagiri was appointed IO after A Sravan Rao's deposition.
