SIR Process in Delhi Extended, Final Rolls to Be Published on Oct 19: Election Commission
The poll panel said the move will give officials more time for verification and claims as the final electoral roll is set for October 19.
- On Wednesday, the Election Commission of India extended the Special Intensive Revision schedule for Delhi, moving the final electoral roll publication from October 7 to October 19 and the draft roll from August 5 to August 17.
- Delhi's extension follows adjustments made to Haryana and Andhra Pradesh earlier this week, as Phase 3 of the nationwide SIR has required multiple timeline revisions due to administrative and logistical requirements.
- Field verification work will extend by 10 days, with Booth Level Officers continuing house-to-house visits through August 8 instead of July 29, while the Commission said the extended timeline ensures maximum voter participation and improved roll accuracy.
- The Election Commission extended schedules for Punjab, Karnataka, and Telangana alongside Delhi on Wednesday, positioning these states within the broader Phase 3 completion framework.
- Previous SIR phases have similarly required frequent schedule adjustments, suggesting the Commission will continue adapting state-specific deadlines as the nationwide rollout progresses toward completion.
