F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, WYOMING, JUL 23 – The pause follows a fatal unintentional discharge of the M18 pistol, amid ongoing investigations and prior reports of similar safety concerns involving the Sig Sauer P320 series.
- A July 21, 2025, memo for Air Force Global Strike Command paused Sig Sauer's M18 after a fatal on-duty shooting at F.E. Warren AFB.
- Amid mounting safety concerns, an FBI report flagged uncommanded firing in M18 pistols, and New Hampshire Public Radio uncovered nine incidents last year.
- According to the base’s news release, eyewitness accounts and unofficial internal reports indicate the holstered M18 discharged without trigger input, striking the 90th Security Forces Squadron airman while on duty.
