A study conducted in the US has determined that high levels of radiation exposure can trigger the formation of toxic protein clumps in the brain, which are associated with Alzheimer's disease. The study, which examined more than 100 studies, found that every 100 millisieverts of radiation increase raised the risk of dementia by 11 percent.
The Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research in the US have determined that high levels of radiation can activate the eCIRP protein in the brain, triggering toxic tau tangles that lead to Alzheimer's disease. It was found that each 100 millisievert increase in radiation raised the risk of dementia by 11 percent.
