Seven Charged over Melbourne Mall Machete Brawl

Seven people have been charged following a machete-involved brawl at Melbourne's Northland Shopping Centre on Sunday afternoon.
The fight erupted around 2:30pm in the food court and resulted from a planned conflict between two rival youth gangs known to police.
Police quickly deployed about 40 officers including specialist units and seized three edged weapons during the approximately two-minute incident.
Two teenage boys, aged 15 and 16, have been formally accused of involvement in affray, causing injury deliberately, and carrying as well as using prohibited weapons, with additional individuals facing comparable allegations.
The state government fast-tracked a machete sale ban starting Wednesday, and police will increase patrols to reassure the community and prevent further violence.
