Shipshe to increase food, beverage tax

SHIPSHEWANA — Indiana Legislature approved an increase in the food and beverage tax in Shipshewana in January, and last week, Shipshewana Town Council approved a 2% food and beverage tax to begin Sept. 1.

Sanae Takaichi, former Minister of State for Economic Security of the Liberal Democratic Party, argued in a YouTube program posted on the 13th that the reduced consumption tax rate applied to food should be lowered to 0% as a measure against high prices. She said, "I am quite disappointed in Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, who gave a negative response to the consumption tax cut at the House of Representatives Budget Committee.
