- On Sunday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent him and lead Nigeria's delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, beginning this Tuesday, September 22.
- The 81st UNGA General Debate runs from September 22 to 28, 2026, under the theme "Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all." Senior Special Assistant Stanley Nkwocha disclosed the delegation announcement.
- Senator Shettima leads a high-level delegation comprising Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, alongside ministers and senior government officials.
- During the assembly, Shettima will deliver Nigeria's national statement on major global issues and participate in high-level meetings addressing climate action and the Right to Development.
- The Vice President will attend the traditional reception for Heads of Delegation and bilateral meetings aimed at advancing economic diplomacy, climate finance, and multilateral cooperation on behalf of Nigeria.
