A Shelby County man has been convicted of a lesser charge in the 2021 shooting death of a 19-year-old woman in Calera.

A man from Shelby County has been convicted of a minor charge, for shooting his 19-year-old girlfriend. A jury found Justin Powell guilty of murder on Wednesday night, after a two-day trial. He was initially charged with murder for the death of Dajah Cutts on August 3, 2021. He was shot once outside his home, on 9th Avenue in Calera.
