Sheffield 'Rave Vicar' Found Guilty of Rape and Indecent Assault
The verdicts bring his total convictions to 22 sexual offences against 13 women, and he will remain in custody until sentencing.
On Friday, a jury at Inner London Crown Court found former Church of England priest Christopher Brain guilty of one count of rape and four counts of sexual assault.
Brain led the Nine O'Clock Service , an evangelical movement in Sheffield between 1986 and 1995, attracting about 500 members; prosecutors described the group as an effectively controlled 'cult.'
Surrounding himself with a 'homebase team' referred to as 'the Lycra Lovelies' or 'the Lycra Nuns,' Brain manipulated victims through grooming and isolation. These convictions bring his total to 22 sexual offenses against 13 women.
Having been found guilty of 17 indecent assaults last year, Brain now awaits sentencing; Judge Freya Newbury stated the hearing is likely to take two days.
Senior crown prosecutor Julie Moss of CPS Yorkshire and Humberside described Brain's actions as a 'disturbing campaign of manipulation and abuse,' isolating victims from family and making them financially dependent.
