Shakhtar Donetsk to Play Champions League Home Games at Chelsea
Chelsea will host Shakhtar’s home ties after the Ukrainian club won its league by 12 points and qualified for the Champions League.
On Friday, August 21, 2026, Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk agreed to host their Champions League home matches at Chelsea Football Club's Stamford Bridge stadium this season.
For over 12 years, Shakhtar has been unable to play at the Donbas Arena due to the Russian invasion, requiring the team to stage matches across Europe, including Germany and Poland.
Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League last season, failing to qualify for European football, which leaves their home ground available for Shakhtar to use during the Champions League campaign.
A Shakhtar spokesperson added: "Playing our Champions League home matches at Stamford Bridge is a special opportunity for Shakhtar." Chelsea will work with the team over coming weeks to ensure safe matchdays.
Next week, Shakhtar will learn their Champions League opponents during the official draw. Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso prepares for Monday's Premier League match at Craven Cottage against Fulham.
