Germany updates: Severe storms hit several states

Severe weather has caused chaos across several parts of Germany. Meanwhile, three adult patients were killed in a fire at a hospital in Hamburg. Follow DW for more.

Fire brigade operations, fallen trees and flooded roads: severe weather has swept over several federal states, regional railway lines have been closed in Rhineland-Palatinate. There may also be thunderstorms on Sunday.

The storms on Saturday and Sunday caused serious damage in several German states: the roofs of houses caught fire, basements and streets were flooded, trains had to be canceled, and in some places the power supply was cut off.

As announced, severe weather is affecting parts of Germany. In NRW, the authorities report on numerous fire brigade operations. In Rhineland-Palatinate, there are restrictions for rail travellers.

MAINZ. Today, Saturday, May 31, 2025, heavy storms in Rhineland-Palatinate have led to significant disturbances in rail traffic.
