Sevastopol Air Defense Thwarts Drone Attack

No injuries were reported, but several buildings were damaged as Russia said it intercepted 140 drones overnight across multiple regions.

  • Early on Wednesday, air defence units in the port of Sevastopol in Russian-occupied Crimea claimed to have downed over 20 Ukrainian drones, with Ukraine also using Storm Shadow missiles in the operation, Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said on Telegram.
  • Ukraine's military escalated attacks on Monday by using Storm Shadow missiles to destroy a Russian command-and-control post in Russian-controlled territory in Ukraine's eastern Luhansk region, actions Russia has previously protested by summoning British and French ambassadors.
  • Russia launched 163 drones at Ukraine since 6 p.m. on Tuesday, with Russian defence ministry claiming 140 drones were downed overnight, while strikes across Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions wounded 21 people in the past 24 hours.
  • Separately, two people were wounded in the Russian port city of Taganrog after Russia downed a missile early Wednesday, Taganrog Mayor Svetlana Kambulova reported, while Ukraine offered no comment on the attacks.
  • Russia's previous summoning of British and French ambassadors signals deepening diplomatic friction over Storm Shadow weapons, with the Franco-British consortium continuing supply despite Moscow's protests over the contested system.
