Ukraine Begins Mass Production of Domestic Interceptor Drones as Russian Attacks Intensify
Ukraine's domestic manufacturers have started mass production of Octopus drones to counter hundreds of Russian Shahed-type drone attacks daily, saving costly missiles, officials said.
- On Friday, the Ukrainian Defence Ministry announced it began large-scale production of domestically developed interceptor drones, launching mass production to protect Ukrainian skies as soon as possible.
- As the war nears its fourth year, cities and towns far from the frontline face near-daily attacks, with Ukrainian officials saying the latest assault included 430 Russian drones.
- Domestic manufacturers have already started production, and the first three have received Octopus technology, while another eleven companies prepare lines, the ministry said.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy set a target of manufacturing up to 1,000 a day and signed UK co-production plans to build thousands; interceptor drones costing a few thousand dollars each aim to save expensive missiles, marking the first serial production within a NATO country.
- The ministry is continuing open collaboration with domestic defence companies to accelerate battlefield innovation and engage international co-production using Octopus technology.
