The crime, approved on Tuesday 1 July, will allow to prosecute those responsible for fatal accidents now with an aggravating circumstance, such as the use of narcotics or the lack of a permit.
The Senate adopted this new offence, while many road accidents have so far been qualified as manslaughter.
The crime of "road homicide" will be able to be put in place after a final vote in favour of the Senate on Tuesday, July 1st, to the great relief of the victims who have made it their fight for several years.
The law will allow the prosecution of those responsible for fatal accidents accompanied by an aggravating circumstance, such as the use of narcotic drugs or the lack of a permit, for "road homicide" and not for "involuntary homicide".

Now, in a fatal road accident with aggravating circumstances, the driver at fault will no longer appear for "involuntary" homicide. Justice will summon him to the stand for "routier" homicide. After a final vote, the Senate and Parliament have just definitively approved this new name. The reform only has to wait for its official promulgation by the President of the Republic to come into effect.
