Rev. Frederick W. Neve (1855–1948) was called to Virginia from England to serve the congregations at St. Paul’s Church (in Ivy), and Emmanuel Church (Greenwood). He established his first mission outpost, St. John the Baptist Mission, in 1890, in the Ragged Mountains of Albemarle County, south of Ivy Depot.
